Purchase an Annuity to Qualify for Medicaid and Protect Your Life Savings
Medicaid allows unmarried persons and married couples to use annuities to reduce excess resources to qualify for Medicaid and protect life savings.
An annuity is an agreement between you and a company licensed to sell annuities. For example, an insurance company. You give the insurance company a lump sum, say $70,000, and in return the insurance company agrees to pay you a fixed monthly amount based on your life expectancy. Not any annuity will do. The annuity must satisfy Medicaid’s legal requirements.
