If the nursing home has a choice between either you paying privately for your care, or getting paid from Medicaid, the nursing home would rather have you pay.  Here’s why.  The average private pay rate for nursing home care can be a couple of thousand dollars or more per month compared to getting paid by Medicaid.  So you have to ask yourself, “If the nursing home gets thousands of dollars per month more the longer it takes you to qualify for Medicaid, then what incentive does it have for you to qualify for Medicaid quickly”.   Probably, not much.
