What to Do at The Scene of The Accident
If you haven’t done the things listed in this section, no worries. Complete the tasks as soon as you can. The closer to the time of the accident these tasks are completed, the better, because it’s better to document important information when it’s fresh in your mind.
If you can, this is what you should do at the scene of the accident:
- Call 911 to report the accident;
- If you are injured, wait for emergency services to arrive and examine you;
- Get the name of the investigating police officer and crash report number;
- Take pictures of the following: license plate of the other vehicles; license plate of witness vehicles; damage to other vehicles; damage to your vehicle; injuries to yourself and others; the accident scene including traffic lights, skid marks and other things you think are important.
- Name, address and phone number of the tow truck company.
- Do not talk to other driver’s insurance company until you have consulted a lawyer.
