Unmarried Person Income & Resource Limits to Qualify for Medicaid
In 2017, to qualify for Medicaid, and have Medicaid pay for your nursing home care instead of using up your life savings, your monthly income and the value of what you own must be equal to or below the following limits:
Monthly Income Limit: $2,205
Resource Limit: $8,000
These limits are under the “Non-money Payment” category for Medicaid. There are other categories with different income and resource limits. But for the purpose of demonstrating to you how to qualify for Medicaid and protect your life’s savings, we’re only going to discuss this category. Regardless of the category, and the fact that these limits can change from year to year, how to qualify for Medicaid and what you can do to protect your life’s savings will be similar.
To qualify for Medicaid you must satisfy both limits. For example, if your monthly income is below the $2,205 limit, but your resources are $10,000, over the $8,000 limit, you don’t qualify. You must reduce the $10,000 in resources equal to or below the $8,000 Medicaid limit to qualify for Medicaid.
