Need to Look at Insurance Like
Homeowners, Car, Life, Disability and Long Term Care Too
Part of any estate plan should be to confirm that you have the right type of insurance and enough of it. Whether it’s car insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance or disability insurance, those policies should be reviewed.
Discussing it with your broker is not enough. Some brokers and insurance companies have different pressures when it comes to selling insurance. From their perspective, collecting premiums and never having to pay a claim is ideal. That motivation is sometimes reflected in the type and amount of insurance that they recommend. For that reason, you risk not having what you need when the time comes. On the other hand, you want to make sure the insurance you’re paying for does the job if you ever have to use it.
Your estate planning attorney is not collecting premiums and the primary motivation should be to make sure you have the proper types of insurance and enough it.
In many cases, you’re already paying for the insurance. Your attorney reviews of the policies to confirm that you have what you need. You worked a life time for what you own and you can’t afford to be paying for insurance that risks not doing the job when the time comes.
